Stans

The most numerous sentient and intelligent being on our main planet is the Stan. It lives in the sand, through which it moves at great speed, and resembles a massive (roughly twice human-sized) sock with a head which, when the jaw is opened, looks like a slipper. Though blind, stans have excellent hearing and have evolved speech, and the ability to speak many languages, though their tendency to swear uncontrollably and multilingually is particularly marked when there are solar events such as eclipses. It is adept at moving between dimensions in search of its prey, or to avoid predators. They grow during the fertile first half of their lives and shrink during the second half.
