The move The Ethereal Field was introduced on 17 July 2020 16:49 UTC[1] and recorded to the Canon on 22 July 2020 03:46 UTC.[2]

Text

Stephen recorded the move to the Canon with the following text:

Move 5. The Ethereal Field. The ethereal field permeates the entire multiverse. In ordinary space, the ethereal field is balanced. However, in the exodimensional space, the ethereal field is more chaotic. Cracks and schists also have strong ethereal fields which attract or repulse objects through them. While the Aether creates ethereal fields between dimensions, people can use the Potential to manipulate ethereal fields within a dimension to create pockets of ethereal flow, which is the basis of teleportation and telekinesis.

Trivia

  • The Ethereal Field was the sixth move in the Greater Game. It was misnumbered "Move 5" and recorded in the Canon with the misnumbering.
  • This move was introduced by Dominick and managed by Stephen during Round 1.
  • By "ordinary space", the author was referring to the dimensions. The terms "dimensional space" and "endodimensional space" were suggested as alternatives.
  • The author was asked for an example, and Dominick gave the following examples: "Say there's an object across the room that you want to come toward you. You can manipulate the ethereal field in the space between you and the object. The object will then be attracted to you as if you were a magnet. Or say you want to travel to a distant point. You can use the ethereal field to bend space in on itself from here to that point and then teleport there."
  • The author speculated that too much manipulation of the ethereal field might be dangerous, affecting the Aether or the stability of the exodimensional space. Dominick further suggested, "Perhaps these are the sources of the cracks", but this idea has not been made canonical.
